Associated Discount House Limited (ADH) commenced business on 2nd August 1993 as one of Nigeria’s first three discount houses duly licenced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It is owned by a group of successful banks and a major pension fund. As a discount house, ADH is a wholesale financial institution intermediating between the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the banks. Our functions are to assist the institutions in short-term liquidity management, provide intermediation services by channeling funds from the investing public into federal government securities, first-class investment instruments issued by the industrial and trading sectors entities that require working capital support, and also render expert advisory services.

Our experience as a Company is as old as the discount market in Nigeria. It is reinforced by the wide and deep exposures of our principal officers and highly skilled treasury team who have long experience of various market regimes with their peculiar twists, risks and opportunities. ADH is a licensed primary dealer/market marker in FGN bonds by the Debt Management Office (DMO) of the Presidency, portfolio and funds management, and advisory services by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The Company prides itself in breaking new grounds. As such, ADH was the first institution to conduct a secondary market transaction in the CBN certificate during its currency. 1n 1999, ADH made history by becoming the first and the only discount house to have taken a controlling stake in a bank – Gatewaybank Plc. As the normal practice in Nigeria is for banks to own discount houses, this reversal of the direction of ownership between a bank and a discount house marked ADH out clearly as a strategic and visionary sub-sector leader. It is noteworthy that ADH restored the bank onto the path of profitability, paying dividends for the first time. The bank has since successfully consolidated with the Intercontinental Bank Group.
